THIMPU

Thimphu is an unusual capital city in the world. It’s a small town with a population little over a hundred thousand. The entire district of Thimphu has a population of about 150 thousand. The city became the capital of Bhutan in 1961. Today it is a bustling town in the bank of the Thimphu Chu (Chu means River) and is set gloriously in the hills of Thimphu valley. Thimphu is home to the revered Bhutanese Royal Family, the Royal Govt. And Judiciary and to several foreign missions and development projects.The Thimphu valley is spread south-north along river Thimphu Chu. The town is about 15 km in length and the width in most places is just about a kilometer. The Clock tower is the heart of the town and all major hotels and government offices are within 5 to 10 minutes drive from here. Nordzim Lam is the main road that passes by the Clock tower, about hundred meters up the slope is a parallel road called Doeboom Lam, about 50 meters down on the other side is the Chang Lam, these almost parallel 3 roads are connected by several lanes. The Nordzim Lam and Chang Lam are one-way roads for vehicular movement.

By Road

There are no available bus services between Chennai and Bhutan and thus you must come to Kolkata. From Kolkata you can easily get a bus to Bhutan. It takes 18 hours to reach Phuentsholing from Kolkata. You can also opt for the bus, private taxi or any other local transportation in order to reach Bhutan.

By Train

Again there is o direct train route between Chennai and Bhutan, hence convenient options are New Alipurduar, Siliguri, New Jalpaiguri and Hasimara. Once you reach Jaigaon you can avail a taxi/cab to reach Bhutan.

By Air

Paro International airport is the only airport of Bhutan. Druk Air is the only airline which operates regular flights to and from Paro to Gaya, Bangkok, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Kolkata and Delhi. Unfortunately there are no direct flights from Chennai to Bhutan and hence first you can travel to Kolkata or Delhi and then fly to Bhutan.
